CELEBRATING 100 YEARS COMMERCIAL OIL PALM INDUSTRY in INDONESIA

The Indonesian Palm Oil Producer Association (GAPKI) will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the palm oil industry in Indonesia by organizing an Exhibition, Conference, Gala Dinner, Sports tournaments and charity events in March 2011 in Medan, Indonesia.

Indonesia has become the world’s largest palm oil producer since 2009, with a total production of 20.9 million tons followed by Malaysia with an output of 17.7 million tons. It is expected that the palm oil production in Indonesia will increase by 4 percent to 22 million tons in 2011.

Celebration of 100 years of oil palm industry in Indonesia is a very important moment in particular to the region of North Sumatra, this is because the first time into Indonesia palm oil from the continent of Africa is in an area called Pulu Raja, North Sumatra and Sei Liput, Aceh in 1911 then in the end almost all parts of Sumatra has been a regional producer and exporter of the world’s largest palm oil.

Therefore the year 1911 should be considered as a milestone of COMMERCIAL OIL PALM INDUSTRY.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of this event are as follows:

1. To celebrate the success of commercial oil palm industry in its 100 years of sustainability.

2. To reveal to the world that palm oil industry should account its roles in promoting food, health and energy security, elevate people socio- economics of the producing countries, positively concern to environment.

3. To prepare the stakeholders in entering new decade, golden era of this golden commodity.
