2nd Palm Oil Conference on Sustainable Yields, the Way Forward
(09 - 10 Dec, 2010)
VENUE: Bali, Indonesia

Achieving Sustainability Through Optimising Yield Performance

Palm oil is proven as the most efficient crop and the world's most traded agricultural commodity with its uses ranging from food, industrial, personal care products to energy. It now contributes over US$ 10 billion in foreign exchange for Indonesia annually.

Under increasing attacks from buyers in Europe, the Indonesian government recently signed a moratorium banning deforestation and peatlands conversion caused by palm oil expansion for two years starting next year. This has thrown the Indonesian palm oil industry into a limbo as plantation expansions that are already licensed are now being reviewed in light of the ban.

As the green consumer mounts across the globe, many importers have now insisted they will buy only from producers that have certification.

Palm oil producers who are not yet certified have a strong need to understand the complexities of the RSPO audit and certification so that they can get themselves certified and gain worldwide recognition. Crude Palm Oil produced by RSPO certified mills also attracts a premium value in the market.

With this ban on peatland, oil palm expansion will now be relegated to marginal and degraded land. Under such circumstances, economic consideration will be the key driver for producers to ensure that their palm oil business is sustainable whilst meeting the needs to protect the environment.

Palm oil producers recognise that Increasing Yield is the best approach towards achieving sustainability in oil palm.

2nd Palm Oil Summit on Sustainable Yields is an important gathering of oil palm companies, agronomists, plantation managers, sustainability directors to discuss critical issues and identify opportunities for yield improvements and effectively implement them in a sustainable manner.

Key issues to be discussed
